What ditch research is being carried out at Cornell University?

Dr. Rebecca Schneider is leading a team of Cornell scientists to conduct research on the contribution of roadside ditches to streams and lakes. The goals are to:
  1. Quantify contributions of water and sediment from roadside ditches to receiving streams,

  2. Compare discharges and loadings from several common ditch management practices,

  3. Develop a model that evaluates impacts on water quality of various ditch characteristics and management practices, and

  4. Use the model to evaluate the relative hydrologic contributions of ditches to the larger, natural stream system network.
